About Seabed Agreement Enquiries in Orkney
Applications for any seabed agreement (covering any leases, licences, lease option agreements with Crown Estate Scotland) are referred to sectoral information provided on the Crown Estate Scotland website. Activities located in Delegated Sectors¹ within the Orkney Marine Region will be assessed against Orkney Islands Council published guidance and criteria by the designated Pilot Officer.
The Pilot Officer works within the Council’s Enterprise and Sustainable Regeneration Department, which also houses Marine Services, Harbours, Transportation including ferries, and community-led enterprise programmes that help guide and enable investment in the Blue Economy.
Our aim is to work in concert with both Council and Crown Estate Scotland cross-sectoral experts to provide seabed agreement applicants with comprehensive local knowledge to support sustainable, successful projects.
While Crown Estate Scotland will consider recommendations made by the OIC Pilot Officer, Crown Estate Scotland exclusively retains all rights and final decisions on final seabed agreements and specific agreement negotiations. The OIC Pilot Officer will be available to discuss feedback with applicants.
