Item 2 Burial Grounds

This document contains Orkney Islands Council’s updated Burial Grounds Management Plan and Customer Charter for 2026, presented for approval to meet new Scottish regulations. It covers management of 50 burial grounds, burial arrangements, maintenance, memorial safety inspections, visitor guidance and rights of burial, which now last 25 years with possible 10-year extensions. Supporting equality and island impact assessments found no significant effects, and no public consultation was undertaken because the changes reflect legal requirements.
