The information presented in these pages indicates the number of meetings attended by each member against each of the Committees and Sub-committees on which they serve. It must be highlighted that this information details participation in decision making Committees and Sub-committees of the Council. It does not accurately reflect an individual Councillor’s workload as Councillors attend many other meetings such as working groups, Development Trusts, Community Councils and Parent Councils. Also not included in this information is attendance at partnership bodies which Councillors are elected to serve on, such as the Integration Joint Board and its respective sub-committees, the Orkney and Shetland Valuation Joint Board and the Islands Growth Deal Joint Committee, among others.

If a member of the Council is not able to attend a meeting, s/he may give apologies, which are then recorded in the minute of that meeting. The categories of apology are as follows.

  • Y = Attended Meeting.
  • APC = Apologies as on other Council Business.
  • APP = Apologies due to personal/private matter.
  • NP = Not Present (no apologies given).
  • EX = Exceptional Circumstances.

Exceptional Circumstances include the following:

  • Illness.
  • Travel disruptions.
  • Weather related disruptions.
  • Matters where Standing Orders prevent the member from attending, such as continuation of a planning application and the member was not present when the matter was originally discussed.
  • A meeting which is considering one item and the member would not have participated in the discussion.
