Owners of buildings within the Stromness Conservation Area, like all property owners, are responsible for the repair and maintenance of the fabric of their buildings. However, the materials and craftsmanship required to make appropriate repairs and to preserve the appearance and character of traditional buildings differ to those which are used on new build properties.
For guidance and advice on repairs and maintenance of historic properties please download the Repair and Maintenance Manual sections from the 'Related Downloads' section. This guide was produced by the Stromness THI and is intended to provide householders guidance and advice which is specific to materials and techniques which were used on traditional buildings in Orkney.
Further information is available from the 'Related Downloads', Related Links and 'Related Sites' sections of this page.
