Eligible Two Year Olds

Some 2 year old children are eligible for a funded Early Learning and Childcare place if their parents or carers receive particular benefits, or if the child has been looked after by the authority, the subject of a kinship or guardianship order. If you are in receipt of any of the benefits below, your child can have up to 1140 hours of Early Learning and Childcare starting from the term after their second birthday.

Registration for a two year old place should be completed no earlier than three months prior to the date of their second birthday.

1 March – 31 August 2020. August 2022 (Autumn Term).
1 September – 31 December 2020. January 2023 (Spring Term).
1 January – 28 February 2021. April 2023 (Summer Term).

School Year 2023 - 2024

Children born between

Eligible to start Early Learning and Childcare

1 March - 31 August 2021. August 2023 (Autumn Term).
1 September - 31 December 2021. January 2024 (Spring Term).
1 January - 28 February 2022. April 2024 (Summer Term).

Your child will be eligible for a 2 year old place if you are in receipt of one of the following benefits:

  • Universal credit (and your monthly earned income is less than £726).
  • Income Support.
  • Income Based Jobseekers Allowance.
  • Employment and Support Allowance (Income Related).
  • Child Tax Credit, but not Working Tax Credit (income below £18,725).
  • Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit (income below £8,717).
  • Age 16-18 and claiming any of these benefits in your own right.
  • Incapacity Benefit or Severe Disablement Allowance.
  • State Pension Credit.
  • Asylum Seeker receiving support under Part VI of Immigration and Asylum Act 1999.
  • Children of care experienced parents.
