Orkney Marine Environment Project

The Orkney Marine Environment Project will improve the availability and accessibility of marine environmental, social and economic data for the purposes of marine planning, management, education and awareness raising. The key output from the project is a State of the Environment Assessment for the Orkney Islands marine region to 12 nautical miles.

The project is being taken forward by our Marine Environmental Planner working within the OIC Development and Marine Planning team. It will provide the foundation for the sustainable management of the region’s marine and coastal resources, establishing a baseline against which future marine planning will be monitored and evaluated. The project helps to engage stakeholders and build relationships to facilitate information gathering and knowledge exchange. Marine information will be made available and accessible to a wide variety of audiences including businesses, schools, higher and further education institutions, Community Learning & Development and the wider community.
