The Orkney Islands Council (30 mph Speed Limit) (Various Roads in Orkney) Order 2021

Orkney Islands Council proposes to make an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to provide for the regulation and management of speed limits in various lengths of road specified in the Schedule to the Order.

The Order will create a thirty miles per hour speed limit on sections of the following roads:

  • A961, Westshore, Bloomfield Road, Burray Village.
  • A961, east of St Mary’s.
  • A960 and B9052 Toab.
  • Wardhill Road, Stromness.
  • Swartland Road, B9057 Vetquoy Road, B9057 Hillside Road, Dounby.
  • Carness Road, St Ola.
  • Old Finstown Road, St Ola.

The Order will supersede the existing Orders specified in Part I of the Schedule below where its provisions conflict and revoke the existing Orders specified in Part 2 of the Schedule below.

Details of the proposals are contained in the draft Order which, together with copies of the relative maps, a statement of the Council’s reasons for proposing to make the Order and the Orders specified in the Schedule below may be inspected during normal office hours at Customer Services, Council Offices, Kirkwall, Orkney KW15 1NY (10:00 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 16:00 Monday to Friday) and at Warehouse Buildings, 2-12 Victoria Street, Stromness, Orkney KW16 3AA (10:00 to12:00 and 14:00 to 16:00 Monday to Friday and 12:00 to 15:00 on Saturdays) and online at www.orkney.gov.uk.

Objections to the proposals, specifying the grounds on which they are made, should be sent in writing to the Director of Development and Infrastructure, Orkney Islands Council, Council Offices, Kirkwall, Orkney KW15 1NY or by email to developmentandinfrastructure@orkney.gov.uk not later than 17:00 on Friday 3 December 2021.

Part 1

  • 1. The Orkney Islands Council (40 mph Speed Limit) (Toab) Order 2002 which came into operation on the First day of June Two Thousand and Two.
  • 2. The Orkney Islands Council (40 mph Speed Limit) (Various Roads in Orkney) Order 2012, which came into operation on the First day of August Two Thousand and Twelve.
  • 3. The Orkney Islands Council (50 mph Speed Limit) (Various Roads in Orkney) Order 2012, which came into operation on the First Day of August Two Thousand and Twelve.

Part 2

  • 4. The Orkney Islands Council (40 mph Speed Limit) (Burray) Order 1993 which came into operation on the First day of May Nineteen Hundred and Ninety Three, is hereby revoked.
  • 5. The Orkney Islands Council (40 mph Speed Limit) (Hillside Road, Dounby) Order 1999, which came into operation on the First day of April Nineteen Hundred and Ninety Nine, is hereby revoked.
  • 6. The Orkney Islands Council (40 mph Speed Limit) (St Mary’s, Holm) Order 1999, which came into operation on the First day of May Nineteen Hundred and Ninety Nine, is hereby revoked.
