Review of Polling Districts and Polling Places 2020

In accordance with Section 18C of the Representation of the People Act 1983, as amended, notice is hereby given that Orkney Islands Council is undertaking a review of Polling Districts and Polling Places within Orkney Islands Area of the Orkney and Shetland Parliamentary Constituency.

We have a two week consultation period from Friday 17 January closing on Friday 31 January 2020.

Electors within Orkney we want to hear from you if you think we are using the most convenient available places for you to vote. It would be helpful if you could include any suggestions for alternative polling places if you feel the existing ones are not suitable.

Consultation Timetable

  • Date: Friday 17 January 2020 - Commence public consultation.
  • Date: Friday 31 January 2020 - Public consultation ends.
  • Date: Monday 3 February 2020 to Friday 7 February 2020 - Analysis of submissions and consultation with Returning Officer.
  • Date: Thursday 20 February 2020 - Submission of final proposals to Orkney Islands Council.

  • Map containing situation of each of the Polling Stations in Orkney.

The Council would also welcome any comments from those persons or bodies who have particular expertise in relation to premises or facilities for persons with any type of disability. Representations should, if possible, suggest alternative arrangements to be considered.

All representations made by any person in connection with the Review will be published on the Council website at the close of the Review, along with the final decision of the Review, copies of the correspondence issued by the authority to persons with particular expertise in relation to access to premises or facilities for disabled persons and copies of all correspondence sent to the Returning Officer as part of the Review.

All comments received will be reviewed by the Returning Officer who will then comment on the proposals. Responses must be received by Friday 31 January 2020.
