Surface dressing delayed due to cooler spell

Surface dressing delayed due to cooler spell
21 May 2021

Orkney Islands Council is advising that, due to weather forecasts, surface dressing road works planned for today (21 May) at Holland Road in Firth have been postponed until warmer, drier weather returns to the county.

Surface dressing requires higher road surface temperatures for the materials to bed in properly – something the current cold rainy spell could compromise.

At this stage the works will be delayed until at least Tuesday 25 May, with a knock-on effect on other works planned for that week at Puldrite Road in Rendall, Arwick Road in Evie, Georth Road in Evie, Brough Road in Birsay, Ravie Hill Road in Birsay, and Hundland Road in Birsay.

Members of the public affected are advised to check the Council website for updates.

A more detailed update with revised dates will be provided early next week as forecasts become clearer.
