Orkney Islands Council will hold consultation sessions later this month to present proposals for on-street parking in Kirkwall town centre, and give local businesses, residents and the wider public an opportunity to comment.
The focus of the proposals is on Bridge Street, Albert Street, Broad Street, Castle Street, Victoria Street and Main Street – where it is proposed that there will be a variety of waiting times at designated parking areas.
Outwith the marked bays it is proposed that vehicles will be subject to the restrictions imposed by both single and double yellow lines which means no parking or waiting as set out in the Highway Code, except for Blue Badge holders and delivery vehicles.
Darren Richardson, OIC’s Head of Infrastructure and Strategic Projects, said: “The proposals reflect feedback from the public over the years.
“The events we’re planning will be a chance for people to discuss with members of our roads team what they think of the proposals, ask any questions they may have and suggest any improvements that could be made. The views of the public and local businesses will be important in helping us take this forward.”
There will be three events in Room Three at Kirkwall Town Hall on:
- Tuesday 21 January – 11:00 to 15:00.
- Wednesday 22 January – 16:00 to 19:00.
- Thursday 23 January – 11:00 to 15:00.
Each event will give people the chance to comment on the proposals or fill out a feedback form.
