Lockdown Reflections – staff stories – Norman Rendall – taking care of the Council!
26 March 2021

Name: Norman Rendall

Age: 59

Department: Council Offices

Job Title: Senior Caretaker

Years of OIC employment: 15Norman Rendall, Senior Caretaker

Duties:

Security of building, meeting set ups, fire testing, water testing, receiving deliveries, delivering goods around the departments, attending to contractors, the list goes on and on!

How has work life changed:

With the nature of my job I have been coming in full time every day. There’s definitely less folk around with the ‘work from home if you can’ policy, I’ve had a lot of sanitising to do and worn PPE as well as social distancing etc.

How have you found the public’s reaction to change?

The public’s reaction is very mixed. I would say it’s the unknown and what the new norm is going to be like.

How has life changed for you personally?

I have stayed at home as much as possible, done a lot more online shopping, not seen family and friends so much, have also done a lot more house chores (especially at the start of lockdown) and been in garden as much as possible.

What are you looking forward to most when restrictions ease?

More time with my family, friends and travel.
