Orkney Islands Council is warning people of the potential for scams linked to Council Tax payment, reduction and refunds.
Fraudsters are known to target people over the phone, by letter and email pretending to be from the relevant authorities, including letter headed paper and government logos. They appear genuine and the content encourages provision of personal details.
Orkney Islands Council would only get in touch via the @orkney.gov.uk email address and all our telephone numbers begin 01856. We do not offer any online service relevant to this. We strongly advise against divulging bank or personal details unless people are certain it is to a reputable source.
