UPDATED - Register of Electors Reminders Out - Take Action Now

Reminder forms have been sent to local households this week for folk who are yet to update or verify their details on the electoral register.

Annual canvass forms were sent out in August, with Orkney residents urged to check their electoral registration details or risk losing their chance to vote on decisions that affect them.

Some householders still need to respond - and reminders have been sent out on this.

Robert Eunson, Electoral Registration Officer for Orkney and Shetland, said: "If your household has just received a reminder form from the Electoral Registration Office in the last few days, then you need to take action on it now.

“The information that you give on this form will be used to update the Register of Electors. Even if there are no changes to the details shown there, you still need to respond so that you don’t miss the opportunities to have your say on matters that are important to you. Your vote matters – don't lose it!”

Recent home movers in particular are asked to check their details. Electoral Commission research has found that recent home movers are less likely to be registered than those who have lived at the same address for a long time. In Great Britain, 92% of those who have lived in their home for 16 years will be registered, compared with 36% of people who have lived at an address for less than a year.
