Town alcohol byelaws reviewed

Date: 16 December 2021

Following an obligatory 10-year review, Kirkwall's byelaws for the consumption of alcohol in public places have been updated to reflect the spread of the town in recent years.

Since 2011 if you are drinking alcohol in a public place - outwith a licensed premise - and don't stop when asked to by the police, then you can be fined.

The updated byelaws come into force on 10 January 2022 and now cover the an area in and around Kirkwall - specifically the 30mph and under areas - as well as Hatston Pier and the surrounding area.

Further information, including a copy of the map showing the area covered, is available on the Council website. at
