When are snow boards or ploughs used?

Boards and ploughs are only suitable for use on loose snow, or when packed snow starts to melt and turn to slush. Boards and ploughs are ineffective on packed snow. This is another reason we may on occasion ask folks to only travel if necessary – in snowy conditions, the more roads with snow on are driven on, the harder it is for us to clear them as the snow is packed harder and harder by the traffic.
