In very cold conditions, salt can be trapped inside frozen rain, or lose its effect altogether due to the temperature. So in winter, motorists need to always drive to conditions, and this will often mean driving at much lower speeds, or even considering whether or not to travel. Pedestrians should invest in ice grippers for their shoes – these are inexpensive and make a huge difference and can prevent painful injuries.
