Coronavirus (Covid-19) - Waste and recycling FAQs

Thanks to everyone in Orkney for their patience and understanding at this time and for showing your support by storing your recyclable waste and only putting out what can be collected.

Safety of our staff and everyone in Orkney is paramount and we have been working hard to make sure that we can deliver services in a way that is compliant with physical distancing and hygiene requirements whilst still continuing to manage the waste services.

Why can I not take residual waste / rubbish /black bag waste to the Cursiter and St Margaret's Hope sites?

We are operating the sites in such a way so as to manage visitor traffic and enable site users to remain 2m apart from other households, in accordance with Scottish Government requirements for physical distancing. This means that we are restricting the number of skips on site. Residual waste can be collected at the kerbside through the usual fortnightly collection service.
