Thanks to everyone in Orkney for their patience and understanding at this time and for showing your support by storing your recyclable waste and only putting out what can be collected.

Safety of our staff and everyone in Orkney is paramount and we have been working hard to make sure that we can deliver services in a way that is compliant with physical distancing and hygiene requirements whilst still continuing to manage the waste services.

St Margarets Hope and Cursiter HWRCs are now open, what material can I take to these sites?

St Margarets Hope HWRC:

  • Food and beverage cans, foils and aerosols.
  • Scrap metal.
  • Paper/thin card.
  • Glass bottles and jars.
  • Plastic bottles.
  • Cardboard.
  • Garden waste.
  • Waste electrical equipment.

Other types of waste cannot be accepted at this time and the centre will need to close once or twice a day – for up to 30 minutes at a time – for skips to be changed over when full.

Cursiter HWRC:

  • Food and beverage cans, foils and aerosols.
  • Scrap metal.
  • Paper/thin card.
  • Glass bottles and jars.
  • Plastic bottles.
  • Cardboard.
  • Garden waste.
  • Waste electrical equipment.
