Coronavirus (Covid-19) - Waste and recycling FAQs

Thanks to everyone in Orkney for their patience and understanding at this time and for showing your support by storing your recyclable waste and only putting out what can be collected.

Safety of our staff and everyone in Orkney is paramount and we have been working hard to make sure that we can deliver services in a way that is compliant with physical distancing and hygiene requirements whilst still continuing to manage the waste services.

Why are you changing how you collect recycling at the kerbside (from 9 November 2020)?

We are returning to an alternate weekly collection, the same as what was happening before lockdown in March earlier this year. We are trying to move towards getting recycling collections back to normality.

We have use of an additional collection vehicle to try and help us in moving back towards normality, at a time then when the service is facing unprecedented budget pressures. This is part of our plan to free up resource and allow the possibility of recovering other recycling services whilst still complying with COVID-19 restrictions.
