Coronavirus (Covid-19) - Waste and recycling FAQs

Thanks to everyone in Orkney for their patience and understanding at this time and for showing your support by storing your recyclable waste and only putting out what can be collected.

Safety of our staff and everyone in Orkney is paramount and we have been working hard to make sure that we can deliver services in a way that is compliant with physical distancing and hygiene requirements whilst still continuing to manage the waste services.

Can those managing the household waste recycling centres refuse entry?

Yes. Residents on foot will not be permitted to enter the sites at this time and if the staff encounter any kind of abuse, verbal, bad language or threatening behaviour residents will be asked to leave the site and may be refused entry in the future. The service is doing the best it can just now with the resources available whilst trying to protect our staff and also site users. We kindly ask everyone to be respectful.
