Coronavirus (Covid-19) - Waste and recycling FAQs

Thanks to everyone in Orkney for their patience and understanding at this time and for showing your support by storing your recyclable waste and only putting out what can be collected.

Safety of our staff and everyone in Orkney is paramount and we have been working hard to make sure that we can deliver services in a way that is compliant with physical distancing and hygiene requirements whilst still continuing to manage the waste services.

What do I do if I have too much rubbish?

It is important that you try to reduce the volume if you can. Please squash plastic bottles, stack tubs inside one another, squash cans etc. to make sure you can contain your waste inside your bin. Please do everything you can to minimise your waste.

If you have a large family or young children in nappies or have a lot of medical waste, you may have more than one grey bin, please do use them. They will be collected.

We understand that you may have more waste than usual during this difficult time but we do ask you to try to minimise it as much as possible.  No refuse placed out beside your bins will be collected but your extra rubbish bags are now be accepted at HWRCs at Hatston and Garson.
