I was born and grew up in Costa, Evie, attended Stromness Academy and studied adult nursing in Aberdeen. I had a varied career in nursing: midwifery, cardiovascular intensive care, care of the elderly and nurse education.
In 1990, I moved to Sweden where I taught English and did further study and to gain a BA English, and an MSc in Health and Life Sciences. This led to doing research in eHealth and gaining a PhD in Health Informatics. I returned to Orkney in 2020, have a keen interest in the local community and became a councillor in 2022. I have two adult children, a son living in Sweden and a daughter in Aberdeen.
