A State of the Environment Assessment for Orkney’s Marine Environment has been prepared for public consultation. This assessment provides a detailed appraisal of the current condition of our marine environment out to 12 nautical miles and provides a baseline appraisal to inform the preparation of a regional marine plan for Orkney. It considers the key economic sectors and issues affecting the marine environment, including physical, economic and environmental factors. The report presents an overview of the existing environmental, social and economic conditions, and where information permits, likely trends, such as sea level rise or the economic growth of key marine sectors.
The document is available in the 'Related Downloads' section of this page and the period of consultation is until 4 October 2020. Response to the consultation should be sent to email@example.com.
It is not a statutory requirement to carry out a consultation on this document. However, as it is the first step in preparing a regional marine plan for Orkney, it would be beneficial to get stakeholder feedback to inform the assessment.
Following the public consultation period, the State of the Environment Assessment will be revised to respond to matters raised and published.
