It is a requirement of the Scottish Government that local authorities and health boards put in place new joint arrangements for integrated social care and health services. Working in partnership, Orkney Islands Council and NHS Orkney are developing detailed proposals for the new joint board that will plan and deliver integrated health and social care services for the county.
The Council and NHS Orkney have already been working together for a number of years to provide a wide range of shared services under the banner of Orkney Health and Care. The main difference looking ahead is that there will be the new body – the joint board – which will be funded by the two organisations and have responsibility for planning and delivering these essential services for our community.
A formal document called an Integration Scheme will be submitted to the Scottish Government for approval later this year. This will set out our plans for the new partnership body. A draft version is available here from the 'Related Downloads' section of this page and in paper form from OIC customer services and the libraries in Kirkwall and Stromness, on local ferries, and at GP surgeries.
