I saw a gritter – but why wasn't it spreading?

It was possibly on its way to refill. Or you may not be able to see the salt as it does not need to be spread thickly to be effective. We regularly test and calibrate our gritters to ensure they are spreading at the appropriate rate – if the road was coloured brown after a run we’d be worried (and we’d be wasting resources).
