Further update on missed collections - 10 February

Orkney Islands Council is advising it was unable to complete refuse and recycling collections in some areas yesterday (Wednesday 10 February) due to ongoing wintry road conditions and unfortunately a mechanical issue.

Households affected are asked to kindly re-present at their next relevant collection.

Households whose waste/refuse collection was missed will be able to put out surplus black bags beside their bin at their next refuse collection on 24 February.

Our apologies to all affected households for the inconvenience.

Areas affected were as follows:

Recycling in Area 8 (South Ronaldsay and Burray): Honeysgeo, Aikers, Windwick and part of the Ontoft. Re-present with next glass and bottles collection on Wed 10 March.

Refuse in Area 11 (Stromness, Sandwick and Birsay):
Yesnaby, Netherstove, Howe Rd, Ravie hill, part Langskaill, part Bryameadow, Linklater, Housegarth, Sandwick Hall, B9057, B9056, B9055, B9056-A967 junction. Re-present at next refuse collection on 24 February.

A reminder of the facilities you can use if you're not able to hold onto your refuse/recycling until you next collection:

  • Refuse can be taken to to our Hatston or Garson Household Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRC).
  • Glass and plastic bottles can be taken to Cursiter or St. Margaret’s Hope HWRC.
