This spring clean - don't pitch it, pass it on!

This spring clean - don't pitch it, pass it on!
01 March 2017

Orkney Islands Council is urging local folk to give unwanted items a second chance this spring, as part of Pass It On Week (March 11-19).

The event is Scotland’s annual re-use campaign encouraging people to get swapping, sharing, donating or repairing items rather than throwing them away.

Jayne Venables, the Council’s Waste Strategy Officer said: “Pass It On Week is a fantastic opportunity to share the re-use message. There are lots of resources and ideas we'll be flagging over coming weeks to help folk plan their own events such as clothes swaps and table top sales, and get everyone thinking about reusing items they're no longer wanting.

“We’d urge folk to consider holding an event - for example, the Council will be holding a book swap event for employees on March 17.

"Let us know about your event so we can register it on the national website and help spread the word. A big thanks also to the schools and organisations in Orkney that have already opted in to support the week.”
