Primary 1 children from St Andrews Primary School were delighted to see their lifeboat artwork framed and displayed on the Kirkwall Lifeboat Station wall.
The class received a visit from members of the RNLI prior to COVID-19 – Graham Campbell, Matt Webb and Mike Cooper – and enjoyed a presentation and talk about water safety.
Last term the bairns carried out a mini topic based on the book “The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch. As part of this they looked at the importance of lighthouses and lifeboats when living in Orkney.
The children then put colouring pen to paper and their amazing efforts were handed over to the Kirkwall crew.
Graham Campbell said: “It’s nice to see the kids keeping an interest in their local lifeboat. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the school and I’m pretty sure the kids enjoyed the talk and lifejacket demonstrations as well judging by the smiles on their faces.
“During normal times we carry out visits to schools and also welcome various different groups and schools to have a visit to the station for a tour of the lifeboat – it’s always great fun too.”
