Recycling collections – week two

Recycling collections – week two
29 May 2020

Kerbside recycling collections will be for plastic bottles next week (beginning on Monday 1 June).

Householders in Orkney Mainland, Burray and South Ronaldsay should put out a single green bin or box containing plastic bottles on their usual bin collection day.

Recycling collections resumed on Monday May 25 and are taking place weekly over a four-week period. Only one type of material will be collected each week.

“I’d like to thank everyone who put out their green bins and boxes for our teams to collect during week one,” said Andrew Drever, vice-chair of the Council’s Development and Infrastructure Committee.

“Putting out the right bins and boxes on the right day of the week was really helpful in making sure the service worked as efficiently and effectively as possible. With plastic bottles being collected next week, your continued efforts and co-operation are much appreciated.”

The things to remember are:

  • We'll only collect one type of material each week - and only one green bin or box at a time.
  • Even if next week is not a grey bin (or red bag) week where you live - please put out your green bin or box with plastic bottles on your usual collection day.
  • If next week is a grey bin (or red bag) week for you - put out your grey bin (or red bag) and your green bin or box on your usual collection day.

That will be the pattern over the four-week period - and we'll provide plenty of reminders.
