Orkney Islands Council has launched two new services to help raise awareness of recycling in Orkney.

A new Facebook page ‘Orkney – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ is now available and an online newsletter ‘Garbology’ has also been created.

Both will provide information and advice on waste management and recycling, aimed at the whole community including householders, businesses and schools and covering a wide range of subjects from food waste to loving your clothes more.

The newsletter will be available on a quarterly basis on the Council website or you can also sign up to receive it direct to your inbox by emailing the recycling team. You can also use this email to provide feedback on the newsletter, including suggestions for future content for the newsletter.

Jayne Venables is the Council’s Waste Strategy Officer. She said: “We’re working with businesses, householders and schools to increase the amount of waste that is collected for recycling. One of the ways in which we hope to do this is by raising more awareness of the importance of recycling, making sure everybody is clear about how to recycle and the reasons why they need to do it.”
