Magnifier now available at Warehouse Buildings

Magnifier now available at Warehouse Buildings
20 June 2018

An electronic magnifier has been presented to the Warehouse Buildings in Stromness to help people with a range of visual impairments.

The device can be used to magnify a range of printed material and display this on a screen for easier reading.

The technology has been purchased with funds raised by the Macular Society’s Orkney Support Group and the Orkney Talking Newspaper.

John Ross Scott, Vice Chair of Orkney Islands Council’s Education, Leisure and Housing Committee, said: “This is an important new addition to the library services we offer at the Warehouse Buildings and I would like to thank the two local groups for their efforts.

“Similar technology was installed a few years ago at the Orkney Library in Kirkwall and has proved to be of great benefit to people with visual impairments and other conditions that make reading difficult.”

The magnifier has been installed in the foyer of the Warehouse Buildings.
