The Integration Joint Board (IJB) – the body responsible for commissioning health and social care services for Orkney - has appointed its Chief Internal Auditor for the next five years.
Orkney Islands Council’s Chief Internal Auditor will take up the responsibility from 1 April 2021.
The appointment was agreed at a Special meeting of the IJB held today, 10 March, with the duration aimed at providing consistency and stability for the Board and matching external auditor arrangements.
Chair of IJB, Rachael King, said: “I would like to thank all involved for their willingness to support the Board in this way, and have no doubt that the experience of OIC’s Chief Internal Auditor Andrew Paterson and their familiarity with public services in Orkney will serve the Board well.”
Orkney’s Integration Joint Board is the entity tasked with planning and commissioning – and setting budgets and savings targets for - the community health and social care services needed for our community. The services are delivered by Orkney Health and Care, a partnership which brings together staff from the Council and NHS Orkney – with both the Council and NHS Orkney passing resources to the county’s Integration Joint Board (IJB).
The IJB’s role is to ensure that decisions are made in a joined up way involving members from the local authority, the NHS, our third sector community, and service user and carer representatives.
Integration Joint Boards were established in 2014 as separate legal bodies to bring together representatives from Local Authorities, NHS Boards, Third Sector, carers and people who use services to develop local health and social care provision through collaboration - informed by the strengths and needs of their local communities.
