Warehouse Buildings opening hours change

The opening hours at the Council’s Warehouse Buildings in Stromness are changing slightly from later this month.

 

From Monday 30 January, the new hours will be:

 

Stromness Warehouse Building

 

Monday – 9.15am to 5.45pm

Tuesday – 9.15am to 4.45pm

Wednesday – 9.15am to 4.45pm

Thursday – 9.15am to 5.45pm

Friday – 9.15am to 4.45pm

Saturday – 11am to 3.45pm

Sunday – closed

 

Team Manager of Customer Services at the Council, Catherine Foubister, explained the reason behind the change: “We open until 6.45pm on a Monday evening but the hour prior to closing has been very quiet and under-used.

 

“We decided to make better use of our staff time and after consulting with the Stromness community and the Community Council, have decided to remain open until 5.45pm on Mondays and Thursdays instead of the single late opening on a Monday.

 

“The revised hours are also more in line with the Kirkwall Library which closes at 6pm on weekdays rather than 7pm.”

 

The team at Warehouse Buildings deliver a wide range of services to the public on behalf of the Council, the Library and the Police.  They also offer meeting rooms to the public and hot desk space to Council staff.  

The team is responsible for:

• Issuing and discharging library materials and processing reservations
• Processing customer requests for a variety of council services and maintaining customer records
• Collecting, processing and reconciling income for the council
• Building and testing new online processes on the customer service platform
• Dealing with the receipt, issue and processing of blue badge applications and concessionary travel applications
• Reporting repairs for Council properties
• Reporting road repairs, street light faults, winter services, waste and environmental services requests using the customer service platform
• Processing bookings for the Council's campsites and hostels, meeting rooms and hot desks

 

They will also be assisting the public with applications for the new cost of living grant which will be available to apply for soon. An update will be provided once the scheme is due to open.
