Campsite reopening delayed

Date: 17 May 2022

The re-opening of the campsite at the Point of Ness in Stromness has been delayed until May 23.

Development work including updates to the showers, toilets and chemical waste disposal, the installation of solar panels and ground source heating, as well the creation of an additional 19 hard standing pitches was hoped to have been completed by May 18 – but significant delays in the delivery of construction materials has led to that date being pushed back.

Campers booked to stay at the site are being contacted to offer them alternative arrangements or a refund.

Garry Burton is Orkney Islands Council’s Leisure and Culture Service Manager.  He said: “The improvements at Ness Campsite will make a huge difference to visitors to the site – a site which already enjoys arguably the best location and views for Orkney’s campers and caravanners.

“It’s hugely disappointing that the project has been delayed – but with construction material shortages impacting projects across the UK it is not unprecedented.  We look forward to welcoming visitors very soon to enjoy the new facilities and apologise to those who have had to change their bookings.”
