Central Kirkwall survey road works update - Wednesday 19 January

Date: 18 January 2022

Orkney Islands Council is advising contractors will still be at West Castle Street, Castle Street, and Junction Road junction tomorrow morning (Wednesday 19 January) continuing the programme of investigative drain survey road works in central Kirkwall. Temporary traffic lights will be in operations so drivers may encounter delays.

Once finished there contractors will relocate to West Tankerness Lane - which will close fully to enable works to be carried out safely.

From there, work will move to Junction Road between Pickaquoy Road and West Tankerness Lane, with the works again being carried out under road closure conditions.

It’s possible, time permitting, contractors will also carry out some works further along Junction Road towards Halfords and Shearer’s. There is no road closure planned for this section, but there may still be some disruption to traffic and pedestrians.

The Council would like to thank motorists for their patience and care around workers as contractors carry out the works. You can find more details in our recent press release
