Local Plan
The Orkney Local Plan was adopted 1 December 2004.
The Orkney Local Plan comprises a Written Statement and Proposals Maps. The local plan sets out detailed policies and specific land use proposals/allocations for the development and use of land in Orkney that guides day-to-day planning decisions. It is the law that planning decision making should be in accordance with the development plan unless material considerations indicate otherwise.
If you are planning to bring forward a development proposal you should consult the Local Plan in the first instance to understand the Council's approved policy which will influence decision making on planning applications.
