GMB, Unison and Unite have advised Orkney Islands Council that they are encouraging their members to take part in strike action today Wednesday August 20. The following services are affected:
Department of Education and Recreation Services -
The following schools will be open – Flotta, Orphir, Stenness, Stromness Primary, Eday, Rousay, Stronsay (nursery closed), North Walls, Sanday (nursery closed), Stromness Academy, Dounby, Firth, North Ronaldsay, Papa Westray. Papdale Halls and Learning Link are also open.
The following schools will be closed – Kirkwall Grammar School, Glaitness Primary School, Burray Primary School, Hope Primary School, Papdale Primary School and Shapinsay Primary School. Stromness Swimming Pool and the Orkney Library and Archive are also closed
Community Social Services - Care home staff and home carers will work as normal. This does not include day centres.
Department of Harbours - Linkspans for ferries will operate as normal, as will the berthing of cruise liners
Technical Services - Those on 24-hour call in technical support will work as normal.
Musuems Service - The Orkney Museum will be closed as will the Scapa Flow Visitor Centre, Lyness. All other musuems will be open.

Road Closures and Restrictions
Orkney Islands Council has announced a programme of road surface dressing works between May 16 and September 30. There may be road closures or other restrictions as a result in order to ensure the safety of site personnel and road users. The restrictions will be effective only when the relevant road signs are in place. For further details and the full schedule please click here.
