Swimming Pools

Orkney Islands Council operates six swimming pools, two on the Mainland (Kirkwall and Stromness) and four on the isles (Westray, Sanday, Stronsay and North Walls). Five have been built on school sites, with Stromness being the exception, although all provide daytime programmes for schools. Fitness Suites

There are fitness suites at Kirkwall Grammar School, Stromness Swimming Pool, Dounby Centre and the Shapinsay, St Margaret's Hope and Sanday Healthy Living Centres.  For more information, please visit the Related Links section.

The Pickaquoy Centre

The Pickaquoy Centre is the county’s largest leisure complex. It is operated on behalf of the Council by the Pickaquoy Centre Trust. The complex boasts an eight-badminton court sports hall, which also doubles up as a highly rated concert venue as well as a fitness and health suite; cinema; bar; café; adventure play area; meeting and function rooms; an audio visual suite; print studio; all weather sports pitch; athletics track; outdoor playing fields; play area and caravan park.

Stromness Academy
