Island Gateway Arts Project
Local artists, Rik Hammond, Diana Leslie and John Cumming held workshops in summer 2012 that used art to explore the unique identity, culture and architecture of Stromness. To complement the works produced from the workshops, poems were written by Morag MacInnes. Over 40 people attended the workshops which encouraged local artists to explore and utilize new techniques.
The result of the workshops was a number of high quality art works, which were exhibited in conjunction with the opening of the former Commercial Hotel which attracted over 600 people. The works are now permanently displayed in the Stromness Library.
