Statutory Notice - The Orkney Local Development Plan

NOTICE OF PUBLICATION OF THE PROPOSED PLAN, ACTION PROGRAMME AND ENVIRONMENTAL REPORT

Orkney Islands Council has prepared a new development plan for Orkney “The Orkney Local Development Plan Proposed Plan”. The Proposed Plan is the culmination of over two years of extensive engagement with the Orkney community and key stakeholders. It contains the new policies and proposals (including new settlement boundaries and land allocations) which the Council intends will form the basis for decision making on planning applications for the next 5 years and beyond.

The Proposed Plan, its accompanying Action Programme and Environmental Report were published on 15 April 2011. These documents are available for inspection at the locations outlined below and comments and representations are invited during a six week period ending 3 June 2011.

It is important that any person who wishes to make representations on the Proposed Plan does so during the above noted six week consultation period to ensure that they reserve the opportunity to be involved in the formal Scottish Government Examination process which is timetabled for late 2011.

In accordance with Section 8(1) of the Environmental Assessment (Scotland) Act 2005, Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) has been carried out of the Proposed Orkney Local Development Plan and its findings are presented in an Environmental Report. The Environmental Report has identified, described and evaluated the likely significant effects on the environment of implementing the policies and proposals which are presented in the Proposed Plan.  You are invited to comment on the Environmental Report and its findings.

The public are encouraged to access the Proposed Plan via the new interactive on line planning portal which is available at www.orkney.gov.uk (please click on the Orkney Local Development Plan on the One Step Away Section of the homepage). The Action Programme and Environmental Report can also be downloaded form the Orkney Local Development Plan pages.  

In addition to the above, reference copies of the Proposed Plan, Action Programme and  Environmental Report are available at Customer Services, Orkney Islands Council Offices, Kirkwall, the Cash Office Stromness, Kirkwall Library, Stromness Library and all Mobile Libraries. These documents are available for inspection free of charge during normal opening hours (9am-5pm Monday-Friday).
