How to Access the Service

If you feel that you or a person that you care for would benefit from the service you should contact your Care Manager or Community Social Services in Kirkwall on Telephone: 01856 873535, any week day and ask to speak to the Duty Social Worker who will assist you.

A Care Manager will arrange a home visit when the applicant, their carer if necessary, and the Care Manager will decide whether the person needs day care; and if the person agrees to attend, a service request is sent to the Centre.

If a place is available the person’s name will be added to a waiting list and a place allocated and will be responsible for the person’s care plan, reviews and as a contact person. Once a place has been offered a trained staff member from Kalisgarth will meet you to discuss your needs and choices in day care.

The service is offered on a six week trial period, giving time for you to settle in and ensure your needs are being met. A review will then be organised to decide if the service is right for you. At this time the care plan is reviewed when the person, carer, key worker and care manager meet to discuss whether the person’s needs are being met or if something further needs doing, and if the person wishes to continue attending.

In some cases a person may attend the Centre for several years, while for others it may be for a few months. This will depend entirely on the needs of the individual.
