Council Housing in Orkney
The Council currently has 867 houses and flats across Orkney. These are situated all across the county from Westray to South Ronaldsay and Stromness to Deerness. In addition the Council is currently undertaking a programme of building new properties. Initially the Council committed to building around 125 new properties over a three year period of which 95 homes are now complete. This programme has now been extended until 2016 under the Council's Strategic Housing Investment Plan and the Strategic Local Programme and includes a further 87 new houses.
How do I apply for Council Housing?
We operate a common housing register with Orkney Housing Association Ltd (OHAL). This means that you need only complete one form to be considered for housing with both organisations. You can choose to only be considered by one if you wish, in which case you would indicate this on the form.
In the related downloads section of this page is the application pack for applying to both Orkney Islands Council and Orkney Housing Association Ltd for housing. You should use the information in the pack to help you to complete the application form and return it to either:
Orkney Islands Council
Orkney Housing Associations Ltd
39a Victoria Street
Guidance on completing this form is given within the Important Information leaflet within the related downloads section of this page. If you require any help in completing the form, please contact either the Council's Housing Services on 01856 873535 or via e-mail, or OHAL on 01856 875253 or via e-mail.
