Adult Support and Protection
The Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007 introduces new measures to identify, support and protect adults who may be at risk of harm or neglect, and who may not be able to protect themselves.
Risks of harm could be physical, psychological, neglect, sexual abuse or being taken advantage of financially.
Measures under the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007 means that effective early intervention can be made where it is necessary, with the emphasis on preventing harm happening in the first place.
The Orkney Area Adult Protection Committee is asking people to speak out if they have concerns about a family member, friend or neighbour so that help, support and protection can be offered.
The Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007 is being promoted by the Scottish Government with the slogan ‘Act against harm’. Locally, the Act is being promoted with the slogan ‘Act against harm in Orkney’.
