How to Pay Your Council Tax
Council Tax is normally paid in 10 monthly instalments from April to January and is due on or before the 28th day of each month. Payment can be made at the Council Offices, Kirkwall or at the Cash Collection Office, Ferry Road, Stromness. The following methods are available:
Direct Debit
Payments can be deducted from you bank account on the 8th, 18th or 28th day of each month. You can download a copy of the Direct Debit mandate, available in Portable Document Format from Related Downloads on the left.
Debit or Credit Card

Cash or Cheque
Cheques should be crossed and made payable to Orkney Islands Council. If you send a cheque by post please write your name and address on the back of the cheque along with your reference number quoted on the front of your Council Tax bill.
Deduction From Council Wages
This method is only available to employees of the Council.
On-line
Payments can be made by debit or credit card. The service is free and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
