The Orkney Islands Council (Bridge Street, Kirkwall, Repaving Works) (Temporary Closure No 2) Order 2018

Orkney Islands Council has made an Order under section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to ensure the safety of site personnel and road users while repaving works are carried out in Bridge Street, Kirkwall at the junction with Harbour Street, Kirkwall.

The Order will come into operation on Monday 5 February 2018 for the period until and including Sunday 18 February 2018. Its effect will be to prohibit the driving of vehicles in (i) Bridge Street, Kirkwall from Harbour Street to 4 Bridge Street; (ii) St Olaf’s Wynd, Kirkwall from Bridge Street to 2 St Olaf’s Wynd and (iii) Bridge Street Wynd, Kirkwall from Bridge Street to 6 Bridge Street Wynd. Parking will be prohibited in Bridge Street, Kirkwall, Albert Street, Kirkwall (from Bridge Street to 28 Albert Street) and Laing Street, Kirkwall.

Furthermore, for the duration of the Order, existing one way traffic orders will be suspended so that (i) the direction of traffic on Laing Street will be reversed and vehicles will only be allowed to travel from King Street to Albert Street and (ii) delivery vehicles only will be allowed to travel in both directions on Bridge Street and on Albert Street (from Bridge Street to Laing Street).

The restrictions will be effective only when the relevant road signs are in place.
