Christmas Grants 2013 - applications invited

Orkney Islands Council is inviting applications for its 2013 Christmas Grant of £52 from its Reserve Fund.

The Council will automatically send an application form to anyone who received the grant last year. The form should be completed and returned by the recipient to the Council if they are still entitled to apply.

Anyone who did not receive the grant last year who thinks they will qualify this year should contact the Council for an application form.

The grant will once again be targeted to any person who normally resides in Orkney; and between 1 October 2013 and 25 December 2013 is either:

  • a person aged 60 years or over and receiving Pension Credit; 
  • a disabled person aged 18 years or over; 
  • or a parent of a disabled child under 18 years.

A disabled person is eligible if they receive one of the following benefits:  Attendance Allowance; Disability Living Allowance; Personal Independence Payments, Incapacity Benefit or Severe Disablement Allowance (this may also be called Employment and Support Allowance); or is registered Blind.

Completed forms need to be returned to the Council by 1 December 2013.

Pension Credit is an entitlement for people over 60 which guarantees them a minimum weekly income.  If you don’t already receive Pension Credit and want to find out if you are eligible for it you can contact the Pension Service on:
