Waste not, want not at the Shows

Waste not, want not at the Shows
31 July 2018

Orkney Islands Council’s waste and recycling team will be at the Dounby and County shows this year with tips and advice for tackling waste.

This year’s stall covers three waste themes – plastics, food waste and ‘reduce, re-use recycle’.

Kids can enjoy a game of snakes and ladders made from re-used materials in the team’s activity corner, while grown-ups can speak to the team about recycling and waste in Orkney.

There’s also a chance to win a Green Johanna – a food waste digester and hot composter – by guessing how many bottle tops are in the giant plastic bottle.

Children can enter a colouring competition for a chance to win a prize.

Head along and meet the team’s mascot, the tin can man from the Wizard of Oz – he’ll be there to show you how to make metals matter.

Look out for the team’s marquee and their 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle' van at the Dounby show on Thursday 9 August and the County show on Saturday 11 August.
