Surface dressing update for 13 June

Surface dressing update for 13 June
12 June 2018

Tomorrow (Wednesday 13 June) will see surface dressing starting on the A964 (main Kirkwall/Stromness to Houton road), from Houton to Nealand Kennels.

There will be a short, signed diversion via Scorrodale Road.

Drivers should allow an extra 20 minutes travel time.

Access to the Houton ferry terminal and Flotta workers terminal will be maintained around ferry departure and arrival times.

These works will affect public bus Service 2: Kirkwall – Houton Ferry.

The 07:15 and 17:10 services departing from Kirkwall are unaffected.

Outwith these times, the bus will not serve the Scorradale Road End to Houton, but will travel to Houton via the Scorrodale road. (There are a number of departures affected - please check timetables)

Full details of how bus services are affected including route changes are available here.

A general reminder that:

  • Roads will be closed in both directions while surface dressing is being carried out, with closures in place from as early as 06:00 and as late as 18:00.
  • School transport buses will be escorted through the work sites.
  • Public buses will be permitted through work sites during peak hours only (before 09:30 and after 16:00).
  • Roads will be closed to all other traffic, with the exception of emergency vehicles.
