The Council’s Elections team is urging people who vote by post to take time to ensure that they have completed the postal voting statement correctly for the forthcoming European Parliamentary Elections.
Voters should make sure that they have signed the statement and filled in the box with their date of birth – and not that day’s date.
Incorrectly completed postal voting statements invalidate the vote - meaning the vote won't count.
Around 25% of voters in Orkney have a postal vote. Completed votes must be returned to the Council by 22:00 on polling day.
Postal votes can be returned to the Council by post or handed in to any polling station on polling day, Thursday 23 May.
Postal voters can also hand in their completed pack at Council Customer Services in Kirkwall on 23 May. After 17:00, packs can be posted through the letterbox at the Council Offices up until 22:00.
Polling stations are open between 07:00 and 22:00 on 23 May.
