It’s Health Week at KGS

It’s Health Week at KGS
03 March 2017

Pupils at Kirkwall Grammar School are to go on a health kick, as they take part in the school’s annual Health Week (6 – 10 March).

The main focus is on mental health but across the week the pupils will take part in a host of activities looking at a range of health factors including healthy eating, smoking and exercise.

The week will culminate in a health fayre for the whole school where a number of organisations will be on hand to speak to pupils about their organisation or service.

Other whole school events will include a staff health walk and a Staff v Pupils Basketball game competition.

The week has been organised by PE Teacher Diane Currie, alongside staff from Kirkwall Grammar School and Orkney Islands Council’s Active Schools Team.

Cheryl Rafferty is an Active Schools Co-ordinator with the council.  She said: “Health and well-being is important at any age, but even more so when our young peoples’ minds and bodies are developing.

“Health and well-being week will introduce the pupils to a range of topics and provide a platform for them to discuss some of the health issues that affect them the most.”
